Day of Peace is from the UN website. To read more, go to their

The General Assembly, in resolution 55/282
(PDF), of 7 September 2001, decided that, beginning in 2002,
the International Day of Peace should be observed on 21 September
each year. The Assembly declared that the Day be observed as
a day of global ceasefire and non-violence, an invitation to
all nations and people to honour a cessation of hostilities
during the Day. It invited all Member States, organizations
of the United Nations system, regional and non-governmental
organizations and individuals to commemorate the Day in an appropriate
manner, including through education and public awareness, and
to cooperate with the United Nations in establishing a global
ceasefire.
"Twenty-four hours: to give relief workers a safe interlude
for the provision of vital services; to offer mediators a building
block towards a wider truce; to allow all those engaged in conflict
to reconsider the wisdom of further violence."

IMAGINE...
if we got a big news anchor to devote a website, and television channel
exclusively to report all the positive and inspirational miracles that
happen each day...
The
human body, at peace with itself, is more precious then the rarest gem.
Cherish your body, it is yours this one time only. The human form is
won with great difficulty, it is easy to lose. All worldly things are
brief, like lightning in the sky; This life you must know as the tiny
splash of a raindrop; A thing of beauty that disappears even as it comes
into being. Therefore set your goal, make use of every day and night
to achieve it. ~ Tsong Khapa ~
